On the morning of January 9 (local time), Shanghai Electric topped out a 222-meter tall thermal tower for the Dubai 700 MW concentrated solar power (CSP) project. It marks a milestone for the group's 950MW CSP + Photovoltaic (PV) Project in Dubai. The new landmark in the region is currently the world's highest thermal tower.
Announced as the world's largest single-site CSP project, the 700 MW CSP project marks Phase IV of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park developed by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) in Dubai. The 700W project includes a 100 MW CSP tower plant with 15 hours of molten salt CSP storage capacity and three 200 MW parabolic trough CSP systems with 13.5 hours storage capacity each.
The central thermal tower stands 267 meters tall, including a 222-meter structure and collectors. Once completed, it will create several world firsts in terms of the applied technologies and tower height.
A topping-out ceremony was held, welcoming representatives from Shanghai Electric, the project's general contractor, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Noor Energy 1 and China Construction Third Engineering Bureau, as well as relevant contractors.
