On May 19, the 2019 Shanghai Science and Technology Award winners were announced at the Shanghai Science and Technology Awards ceremony. Shanghai Electric took home eight awards, and the project from Shanghai Automation Instrumentation Co., Ltd. was one of the only two special prizes for technical progress. Entitled "Technologies and Applications for Safe and Reliable Operation of Control Software Key to Major Industrial Equipment", it delves into theories and techniques of home-made smart control system for major equipment. Backed by its results, China has fulfilled some major scientific research tasks, for example, the launch of Fengyun-4A satellite, the docking of Shenzhou 8 and Tiangong 1, and the re-entry capsule testing high-speed return from the vicinity of the moon into the Earth's atmosphere. The project has put an end to foreign dominance in the field and will be a big booster behind China's economic transformation. It is also of great significance to China's technical progress in aerospace, rail traffic, and electricity control.
It is worthwhile to note that it is the first time in the decade that Shanghai Electric has all its projects awarded second prize or above.
