The project site manager said that large-scale construction of the project in Dubai would begin this year. The project team would strive to complete the roof of the power tower before Expo 2020 Dubai to supply clean electricity of 464 MW during the exhibition. By then, the clean electricity price may be the same as that of traditional thermal electricity—only 0.48 yuan per kilowatt-hour. At the same time, adhering to the idea of sustainable development of Shanghai Electric, the project takes into account the regional ecological environment. In addition to migration of the animals around the site, passages are also left every 200 meters of the fences of the site to allow wild animals to enter and exit the plant in a free and safe manner.
The successful implementation of the Dubai project not only enables Shanghai Electric to gain a foothold in the international high-end solar thermal field, but also marks its groundbreaking move in the international market of new energy engineering.
