On May 15, the 2019 Shanghai Science and Technology Awards ceremony was held at Shanghai Exhibition Center. These awards recognize businesses and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Shanghai's technological innovation and economic and social development over the past year. Shanghai Electric was granted 14 prizes for its technological achievements, the largest number of such prizes it has received in five years.
In the past year, the Group's researchers, by closely aligning their actions with the "three-step" strategy, "3+3" industrial planning, and the Technology Development Plan, put more of their energy on exploring key technologies and products for high-tech commercialization and strategic emerging industries. The past year also saw Shanghai Electric's ongoing, proactive and solid investment in building innovation systems and capabilities, research facilities and tools, as well as experimental capabilities, which accelerated its pace in developing key technologies for new industries and business areas. At the event, Shanghai Electric branches and subsidiaries were granted the Technical Progress prize for 13 of their technological achievements. This represents an increase of four as well as a larger number of first and second prizes compared with last year. The Constraint Theory-based Fracture Evaluation and Control Technology for Major Pressure Equipment, a joint achievement by Shanghai Turbine Works and Shanghai Electric Nuclear Power Group, was recognized by the first prize for the Technical Innovation category. Since its receipt of the prize for the first time in 2017, it only took Shanghai Electric one year to once again win this high-profile tech innovation prize.
At this year's ceremony, the Nature Science prize was granted for 28 achievements, Technical Innovation prize for 30, and Technical Progress prize for 231.
