The Unit 6 of Yangjiang Nuclear Power Plant in Guangdong Province is ready for commercial operation and its amount of grid electricity will be calculated with all the debugging work done on July 24. Yangjiang Nuclear Power Plant has since entered a new stage as all the six units are in full operation.
Shanghai Electric signed a supply contract with Yangjiang Nuclear Power Plant in April 2008, and delivered the first unit available for commercial operation in March 2014. Shanghai Electric has since put into operation one unit every year for the project which includes the most units in the history of Shanghai Electric. On June 27, the 1,000 MW unit successfully completed its first run-up, and was connected to grid two days later, with all equipment in good condition and parameters stable. So far the six units supplied by Shanghai Electric to Yangjiang conventional island have all been connected to grid.
As all the units are put into operation, the annual energy output of the plant should reach 48 billion kilowatt hours, equivalent to 15.6 million metric tons of coal being burned. This will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 38.28 million tons, sulfur dioxide by 370,000 tons and nitric oxide by 240,000 tons.
