On August 2, the ceremony for the opening of Shanghai Electric's Smart Manufacturing Facility and the unveiling of the first 8 MW offshore wind turbine was held in Shantou, Guangdong province. With the opening of this world-class smart manufacturing facility in Shantou, a new record was set for the largest offshore wind turbine in China, which will be a major milestone for China's offshore wind turbine industry. Zheng Jiange, Mayor of Shantou, Jin Xiaolong, Vice President of Shanghai Electric and Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group, and Liu Jun, Deputy General Manager of Luneng Group, attended the event.
The 8.0 MW offshore wind turbine unveiled this time has an 81.4 meters long blade and a wind wheel diameter of 167 meters, offering a sweeping area of 21,900 square meters. The turbine can deal well with challenges such as typhoon, earthquake, high temperature, and low temperature, allowing customers to have steady and reliable return from their investment. The unit will be installed in the Shantou Haojiang Wind Power Industrial Park that houses the Shanghai Electric Smart Energy Demonstration Project in Shantou. Built upon the "Industry 4.0" standards and procedures, the Shantou-based smart manufacturing facility is furnished with massive world-class equipment that is sophisticated, reliable and efficient as well as a lean production management system that is benchmarked against international standards. The facility is a forerunner in the industry in terms of environment protection, process quality control, and equipment operation.
At the event, a Shanghai Electric 5G Smart Manufacturing Cooperation Agreement was signed by and among Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group, China Mobile Guangdong, and Huawei. As part of the agreement, the three parties will ride the 5G wave and work together to explore innovative applications of 5G + smart wind power at the Shantou-based facility. They aim to create a globally-leading iconic project that combines high-end smart manufacturing with 5G-powered industrial Internet.
"A fundamental transformation is taking place in China's energy industry, in which clean energies like offshore wind power will play an increasingly significant role," said Mr. Jin Xiaolong in his speech. "As a nationally-leading provider of clean energy equipment, we at Shanghai Electric strive to explore a path of growth for China's clean energy industry by leveraging our predominance in the offshore wind power field. Known for its richness in natural offshore wind resources, Shantou is poised to begin a new chapter in the future of offshore wind power. The partnership between Shanghai Electric and Shantou is a strong, mutually beneficial alliance, one that will also add momentum to the future development of Shantou."
The ceremony was attended by nearly 200 representatives from the government, wind power developers, design and research institutes, and colleges and universities.
